Atlantis penny-pinching

I thought the "energy surcharge" rip-off had died years ago, much of it in a blaze of class-actions against hotels who didn't inform customers before their stay. The con rate at the Atlantis is inflated as it is, but they are adding an extra $3/night that we were never informed of.

oh dear - I do wonder if they know what the sound of 3000 SF fans on the web sounds like... Guessing their going to learn the hard way.

Unfortunate.

What is the $3 per day charge?

The $3 charge is the resort fee, reduced from the $10 which was listed in the RenovationSF hotels page well before the hotel block was opened.

They cross out "resort fee" on the check-in document and write in "energy fee" instead. In other words, it's a non-specific $3 they feel like adding.

Sounds like a YMMV situation. My contract explicitly said "resort fee: $10" and the person at the desk showed how it was reduced to $3 for the con.

To be clear, my confirmation email said $148/night and made no reference to any extra charges. I thought that was some kind of slightly better rate as it's $3 below the rate on the con web site. It's really the same rate, because the hotel apparently feels the need to try to make their rates look better and then add on extra fees afterwards.
